Some Simple Styling Tips for a Flattering Photo Shooting

Styling for photo sessions is a lot of fun and one of my very favorite services (although, of course, I love all the services I provide). There’s a common joke that the camera adds 10 pounds—and it’s often true. But the good news is that this effect can be minimized with a few simple styling tips I’d love to share with you.

 • Cameras can alter colors. Avoid overly dark, very bright, or very pale pastel colors, as well as busy patterns that can exaggerate or distort body proportions.

• Wear colors that complement your skin tone. Your best basic colors usually photograph beautifully.

• Be careful with black and white. Black can appear too formal, while stark white may create glare in photos.

• Keep your outfit simple. Avoid excessive accessories. You want to be the focal point—not your clothes.

• Choose matte makeup. Avoid glitter or pearlescent finishes.

• Avoid direct sunlight before the shoot to help prevent shiny skin.

• Think about the mood of your photos. Before the shoot, consider the look you want to create—businesslike or romantic, playful or serious.

• Plan your poses. Choose poses that highlight your best features.

If you’re not sure how to prepare for your photo session, feel free to call me to book a consultation. It would be my pleasure to help you look and feel your best in front of the camera.
